Newschannel 9’s parent company, Nexstar Media, is marking its 21st anniversary and employees are celebrating Founder’s Day with a Day of Caring. Employees were allowed to suggest local causes that were important for them to give back and, all day, employees will be working at either the Samaritan Center or ARISE at the Farm in Chittenango.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Samaritan Center, one of Syracuse's largest soup kitchens, is buying the former St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on the North Side for its new home.
"One of the most important things is to move out of the basement and into the light," said Mary Beth Frey, director of the Samaritan Center, told Syracuse.com Tuesday.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Samaritan Center, a program that serves 300 meals daily to the poor and hungry, is in talks with the city of Syracuse about moving its operations to the former St. John the Evangelist Church on the North Side.
The former church, at 215 N. State St., is still owned by the Syracuse Diocese, but it is no longer used. A stained-glass maker who set up shop in 2010 has moved out.
