The
Samaritan Center is a
501c3, interfaith effort
to feed the homeless and needy men, women and children of
Syracuse.
It
is rooted in the belief that sound nutrition is the first step
in
enabling people to cope and become productive,
self-sufficient members
of society.
Our
guests include both the young and the not so young,
those who are well
educated and those who are not,
individuals and families, people whose
lives are bound
by the prison of substance abuse, people who are well
and those who face the challenge of illness.
Men,
women and children who have in common
their humanity, their poverty and
their sincere gratitude
for a place of safety and warmth and
a
nutritious meal offered every day of the year.

It
begins
with a meal.
Each
meal that
we serve at the Samaritan Center is
the centerpiece of our outreach.
Without
preconditions, we invite
those in need to join us for a nutritious, well prepared meal
every day of the year.
Our
dining room
is a pleasant, welcoming place that supports the contention that we are
all made in God's image.
Those
same
meals, from 150 to 300 a day, have provided more
than 500
volunteers with the means by which they can "give back
".
To
find a depth
of meaning for their God-given talents and to see reflected in the eyes
of our guests, the same Godliness that
lies in their
own.
The
more modern
term is leverage.
We
have
leveraged our modest resources to increase the
quality of life
for many more than
those whom we
serve.

2009
Annual Appeal
Each year
the Samaritan Center approaches
the generous Central New York community
for the support needed to continue the
work of feeding those in need.....
their stomachs
their hearts
their minds
their dreams.
The Samaritan Center
is so much more than
a hot meal
for those hungry.
It is a family
for those without,
It is friendship
for those isolated,
It is hope
for those struggling,
It is laughter
in a difficult world.
It may seem like a lot of "waxing eloquent"
but the Samaritan Center Family:
guests, volunteers, Board, donors,
feel in their hearts and
see concretely the power of
Food, Connection and Dignity
offered every day of the year.
Please join our family of supporters
and help make this year's
Annual Appeal a success.
